Brussels, the land of chocolates and pralines..the capital of the bilingual Belgium..where French and Dutch are the major population here.

The unique heritage is expressed in lace and Belgian lace is well known for it's fine art..

Fries with variety of sauces that can't b found in other part of the world...

Belgian waffles (Gauffres)..it's the die heart must try !People swamps for it okay!
They bake the waffles with special iron that is only available there in Brussels where the waffles are crunchy-golden outside and fluffy inside...*drool*
they come with different toppings...the sugar coated Gauffres is special for the burnt sugary scent...ooolaa laaa..strawberries, choc, banana toppings..u name it, they serve it..

Did you know that this country produces 172,000 tons of chocolate per year?
The Belgian produce chocolate with their traditional way and the 1st praline was manufactured by the Belgians and that the idea of a little chocolate shell filled with delicious creams, ganaches, marzipan and other pralines is born.

One of the past time in Belgium is beer drinking and here Belgian breweries produce about 800 standard beers.
We came to the place where most beer were serve ...around 500 different kind of beers you can order here.

Trisomy 18

A retrospective entry.
Child was born on 14th March, boy, term but small for gestational age.Birthweight 2.11kg.
Clinically suggestive of Edward's syndrome,presenting with:
Trisomy hands
Low sets ears
Rockerbottom feet
small lower jaw
imperforated anus
heart murmurs

Baby was kept nil by mouth, solely on drip and it has to be monitored strictly as he doesn't have a patent anus for bowel output.So, we had to aspirate the stomach contents before it reached the large bowel.
So, he has to get surgery for the imperforated anus, but the question was, was he operable?

We sent his chromosomal study to Bertam and off we went to get an ECHO for his heart viability.
The father was along with us, the mother was not.SHE, was ill.

Well,i would say it was soulful moment for me, the father to meet the peadiatric cardiologist.
ECHO showed Pulmonary atresia, VSD and large PDA.

In view baby's condition(imperforated anus), heart pathology and his chromosomal quiry, such perplexing uncertainties were very much a torment..
As long as the ductus arteriosus remained open under prostaglandin, he could stil undergo colostomy surgery.As for the heart, Edward's syndrome is not viable for any cardiac intervention..

I could feel the air static, humming of the air-con and ticking of the wallclock..as Dr A was explaining the pathology of the heart and what outcome and prognosis would he foresee.. her eyes teared.And the small one was lying in the incubator, sleeping peacefully .

we left the clinic after 3 hours.Baby shall continue his drip and KIV for surgery..

Baby was not patient enough..he couldn't stand the stress, and amount of drip given to support him but yet lethally brutal..
Took his last breath at 7.25am the next morning.='(

Now i'm dealing with little people..who are so little and soft like cotton...who smell just like talc..and they all do smell the same..regardless different skin tones .. Every little movement they make...every primitive synergism ..it's something that could intruige my curiosity to know what's going on in their little system..

and they are kung fu fighter..you will understand when you start producing one for yourown...hik!

Reluctance

I applied 2 days leave as my brother has just came back from Perth.The feeling of homesickness was tremendous and much more excruciaiting comparing my uni days in Russia. Funny huh? This might due to the nearer your heart to your home ..the greater is your agony and anguish..thus mind torturing when you could't see your loved ones and yet they are so nearby.

Some of the changes i have just found in me.

1)I could possibly reject all friends' outing and cancell all yam cha, devoting my time to my family. Family comes first now, my social life has turned zero degree.

2) I am tired of shoppings. It's so true that being a highly paid profession, one wouldn't spend money on clothes anymore. I thought i would be the happiest girl in the world with luxurious clothes and etc products..but things had changed lately...I have now yearn for body slash mind relaxation thingy....health comes first over materials.

3) weight is not an issue to me anymore. Cz i would just eat what ever is available or provided in the pantry when i'm famished.

hmmm....this would be a messy entry...cz basically i'm just writing what ever i feel like to..

I now realised that how little is my clerkship now cz now there were 2 new taggers who just joined us again...

Nowadays..HO would have to fight for clerking and doing procedures and stuffs so that we wouldn't be jobless and less productive..so in order to be one...one have to be hyper- pro-active in order to grab any chance before anyone else's do.

Even in OT, we also have to fight to scrub in in order to familiarize with the operation. Why would i say so, cz this would be a good base for us when we are on calls and have to scrub in in any emergency op.

So, in order to make myself more productive, i also have to fight for typing the op notes. It's a post op notes about all the intra-op findings, op steps and procedures, post op observation and management....It's would be quite confusing when the surgeons use multiple types of sutures, from Silk 3/0 to silk 5/0, then Dafilon or Daxon with different sizes, or Prolene or monochrome...kantoi when the MO catch you documenting the wrong sutures and sizes

I'm so looking forward to December...

Yes, the title has its say..I'm a 2 month old HO, surgical department.
I think i have just overcome my transitional period in adopting the local culture and system, able to cope with the flow and workload.There's one thing that could deflect my previous distress is I'm now gaining weight!
Ah~how ironic. HO used to skip meals and sleepless nights..but now, outpouring numbers of HO in a ward has made things the other way around.I even get to sleep when i'm on call.

I would also like to share something personal here..
What i understood is, housemanship is supposed to be a good period for training, a good time to arm yourself with knowledge and skills so that you are capable/ competent to manage a patient/ a collapsing patient when you are at the peripheries.
Things are not up to par here.I would be grateful if MO's are kind enough to show us a proper guideline or at least they give a clear instruction/ order with some humane reason whenever they command the HO to do stuffs for them, who have greater /major responsibilities to carry. They are mean at times, making stories and put blames on the HO when things get crappy so that they have someone to cover their arses....pardon my language.Unfair isn't it?

Lemme share a story .I was on call. There was no new admission. I even put effort in reading all case sheets before going to sleep on the sofa where it was the only place HO on call could be.It was a peaceful night till the next morning my collegue came asking me why i didn't clerk new admission. I was awed and was totally ignorant about that.She then exclaimed that I was notified by the PPK about the admission. "huh?" that's the only response i could give her.
MO was just aside...geez..witnessing the whole incident ler..
"why you din clerk?
" I er...didn't know about that....and i didn't get any call ...i dont get any missed calls also..." ( usually on call people will receive calls whenever they are ' wanted'.)And that's how i defended myself.The MO just kept silent.
With my flick of response..i traced ED clerking notes in the computer. Voila! The MO had already attended the patient while i was sleeping and yet no body really notified me about the admission.See..what bullshit and nonsense are created to make us look stupiat in front of the public...I have nothing to say but remain this to myself.

WE are just the plankton swifting among big fishes..no words to be heard, but blames we have to bear.So, peeps..do prep yourselves with great endurance when you meet MO like this.Now i know how to selectively listen to their words..not every words are worth listening..

7 days of tagging...now i'm off tag. Tagging is a period for me to familiarize with the working environment and the culture of local hospital..
When stepping in the Kenanga, i felt the gush of pressure hitting my stomach. How would the MO and JMO treat me? would they bully and scrutinize me for an oversea HO like me? I've heard a lot about this bias thing circulating the country, and this is quite a bane for this carrier..i presume.
I was proven wrong. They welcomed me with an open heart, willing to lead me and guide me when curiosity and nescienty striked me. I've made mistakes and the clerkship was a total disaster, humouring my collegues and the MO with terms that jollied them. T__T
Well, sometimes i'm a no body...with no pride and low self-esteem. Even the nurses treat you like a Hey-no..But i have to beat that..cz they are savour when we are too busy to endend rescue dose of Actrapid for diabetic and Norvasc for hypertensive patients. We are the warriors..but They are the angels..the watching eyes of god.
Working hours are crazy..the standard 8-5 is crap..HO works from 0630-0000..hectic and stressfull. When we are monitoring Patents' electrolytes and fluid..in the other hand..HO are dehydrated.. Skipping meals is a norm..i lose 2 kg in just 5 days.I just sound hateful aint? no..i like this job. It's something that would bring me satisfaction when i see patients wake up from alleged motor vehicle accident with Glasgow scale rising from 5-9, an amends to sleepless nights and peer pressures when patient could manja with you after she had just recovered from GI bleeding..

Tips for budget travellars Part II

If you are a breaky person, the breakfast served at the hostels are convenient enough and time sparing. *tips! you can carry away some finger foods just in case for your long run at outdoors*

Try to be friendly with the local people and you will get travel tips for cheap stuff everywhere. Talk with people about the country and get some cheap travel tips about the place.

While flying a low cost air, usually the destination of the airport is far away from city center.Do research on the airport and if you are planning to put a night at the airport, not every airport operates 24 hours/day.This happened to me while i was in Paris, and me and my friends had to come out with a back up plan to find a place to crash.
I'd blogged about sleeping in airport here. Bare in mind, it's always handy to carry along:
water tumble, vacuum flask,universal socket,facial towel, eye patch, a novel(for book lovers), socks(in case during winter, airport is cold!) and gadgets and some medicines.

If you are traveling during winter, don't forget to keep track on the flight info board cz flight delay and cancellation is a common scenario.

Target for cheap air tickets during promotions!
Yes! especially winter sales!! the flight tickets are jaw-droppingly cheap! I don't have a concrete plan when comes to choosing the destination, it all depends on the offers given by the traveling agent.And why i choose winter?Because it's the season when less people travel,accommodation and F&B are also cheaper.

make sure you have your international student identity card with you(ISIC) through out the journey.With this card, you can snatch some tasty deals, from ho(s)tels to F&B,from car rentals to sports,from making calls(international) to medical care, museums and parks,cinemas,and lots more! FYI,usually the traveling agent will provide you a FOC ISIC,so, don't be shy to ask about it.

Do research on the countries you are going.You can google it, read about it in wikipedia, and last but not least, seek advice from friends, families or relatives who had visited the place.Find out if the place worth a visit(if you are having a short stay in the countries),how long should you stay for the visit,and also where to put a night.Yes, when comes to accomodation.....

Malaysia has been replete with crime and violence!!Public security is deteriorating, and measures should be taken to curb crimes and to restore distrust of the police.

This what I've learnt from a very recent incident that had caused me enough pain. I got down from the driver's seat and walked along the left side of the road with my handbag on my right,while i was about to near the pedestrian on the left, i felt a hand sliding over my handbag and the next second i was on the ground, with my lateral right landing the ground first. He attacked me from my back, on a bike.The bag was with me, I didnt let it go unintentionally, it was pulled down by gravity with my falling momentum grasping the bag away off his hand.If i have a heavier mass, i sure had pulled him off the bike. I was dragged on the road for a few seconds until he let go, causing me damages on my elbows and knees..

I was fortunate enough that the snatch thief was prowling solo, if not..i wouldn't have been this lucky...
Sigh,need to do dressing and withstand the pain on my skin that has never been damaged throughout my life..

I was appointed to do the presentation show again and plus the back ground music trough out the event. Since there will be a 2 sessions of presentations, I've decided to make 2 categories of presentation, one showing the scenery of Volgograd, and the other one is candid photos of all the graduates.

i stayed at my uncle's at Old Klang Road. To avoid traffic, we departed really really early that day and reached the hotel at 7.20am.

mum n me managed to pull a smile even before our soporness wear off.

Arrived at 7.20am, i saw no one.There was only one hall manager briefing through our tables.Even the ribbons for the chairs were still dangling. My uncle had to leave for work, so we gathered to take the 1st shot of the day.(even the uni logo was not put up yet)

While waiting for the person in charge of the control room to arrive, me and my family waited outside the hall..

The music i've chosen are not only sentimental ones, but also the genres from pop to RnB, from blue jazz to rock which meet the current hype.I know how to mobilize the environment so that people's mood will swing according to the setting.
Here i would like to share something personal, during the slideshow presentation while i was managing the laptop linked to the projector,(yes, the event manager,Zul helped me to set up a personal working space for me to run the tech), a parent neared me:"do you have sentimental music?(shouting to overcome the music)...convocation plays only sentimental music, not music like this....i mean the orchestra music....you should use music without lyrics",
" sorry uncle, now we are showing the slideshow,the background music is set, sentimental ones are on their way..."

P/S: It was my 1st time going to Pavilion...

I joined the world's richest English football club at Bukit Jalil indoor stadium, where the fans shed their sweats and cheered like roaring lions, where the magnificent Mexican dance created waves which brought umpteenth awe.
My uncle works in China press, and he got 2 free tickets to watch the MU versus Malaysia match at the Bukit Jalil indoor stadium on 18th July 2009.Plus, he also got the pass for the training session too on the day before the real match. The initial plan was like this, he planned to bring my brother to the match but because he had to leave Malaysia to Perth on 18th,so i had the triumphant time to witness the event! whoots!

Didn't go to the training session, cz nobody wanted to..

My aunt drove me and uncle to Bukit Jalil and she dropped us somewhere nearby the stadium to avoid the crowds.

On the way...my nieces must be glad that their Jiejie would be squeezed and squashed.

Finally, 20:55, 4th July 2009, I touched Malaysian ground, i tasted Penang food.
So long Russia.

My 2 brothers reached home 2 hours earlier than me, one from Singapore, the other one from Perth.They met at LCCT and took the same flight to Penang. Well, i may say that this is my first time having family reunion ever since i left for Russia. My Pa and Ma were remarkably happy when they saw 3 of us, their grins just mingled with their wrinkles, which was awfully sweet. And Pa has a cool hair cut, whilst Ma's is so hip-hop.

i had a small trouble at the airport.I came home without my belongings. They are now at God-knows-where. I made a report to the lost and found counter and the pakcik ensures me that according to his experience, my lugggage is most probably in Bangkok where i made my transit bcz there were 2 unclaimed luggages at the arrival hall.I just hope noone switched luggage with me...cz there are Ruski reference books which money cannot replace with. I would just wait for their call, prolly tomorrow they can give me a respond.

Pa drove us to taste Penang delights, but i just lose the appetite to crave. Might be due to my 53 hours long run...and practically i was exhausted from travelling almost half of the globe just to reach home.

Still got 3 more days to catch my home coming flight back to Malaysia.

Packed my stuffs, put them accordingly, put names on them who are helping we to carry back home cz i'm not sending cargo.And, i got back 3500 rubles deposit..wheeeee!!

i have been posting past entries as i'm busy and have no internet access now at home. Just sold out the computer.So, practically i'm a parasite now, sucking Ben's wifi to the max..fully utilising the internet.

Most of you might think that after grad, we'll be very free ,no it is not.

Yesterday,took my cert transcript and passed it to Ben (aka peanut).Then, dropped by his house and helped him to arrange all 66 Malaysian MD's transcripts.Now i realise how hard is the job for an office lady or the office boy..still need brain to think to figure out the easiest and most efficient way for the most productive result.

stacked up the certificates (hard covered), arranged the translated certs in alphabetical orders, sliped them into the hard covered cert. Then the transcripts were put in the same fashion like just now.

This is a past entry while i was very very VERY busy after my convo.

We have traveled distance,to get to wear this special get-ups, the hat with a rope in yellow, funny in the sense of dangling here and there when the wind blows and slaps your face, funny garment that it poses a symbolic code elaborating our profession and the programmed day that is remembered by everyone.

The day when the happiness was put on every faces, old and young, men and women, with bouquets on their hands and laughter filled the air..all smiles that were genuine and lighthearted..

1400, the door of the aktovy zal closed, graduands got to their sits accordingly and we all welcomed the arrival of the V.I.P's...
Many parents flew all the way from Malaysia just to witness their kids' glorious moment.

i had a tough day..sitting and staring with my sepet eyes in front of the monitor was weary, but when the product came out a piece of shit, that was insanely a total challenge to my utmost forbearing..

I'm responsible in making the slide shows for my convocation on 26th of June. This is not my 1st time making the slide show as i had been helping out twice for the past events. The slide show is about brief intro about the respective countries of the graduands and each part of the intro is around 15-20 pictures length of time. Last year i did for 23 countries, meaning 23 x 15(20)=345(460) pictures.

This year is a rather relief for me, just 19 countries.I want to make it better this time as I'm the graduand myself..As i still keep the folder of the pictures i used, they would prolly save me big time.

Here is the big bummer, the graduands prefer to use their own pictures provided by themselves. Ok, I'm not trying to be bossy around here, but the procrastinating and the delay had sucked up my time, handling me the disc and CD in short notice whilst my deadline is in 2-3days. *sigh*

plus, the pictures they gave me were microscopically tiny! I had to search for them all over again...

Everthing was smooth till when the pictures load is getting bigger and bigger, the window movie maker which i use to create the slideshow..started to wear off...imagine, a 5 seconds of show needed 20 minutes to gao dim..that's really dyspnoeic!

So, i had to restore the situation by making them parts by parts and join them into one complete clip.
Clip one came out, played when finished saving...jeng jeng jeng.....black out the half way when it reached Indonesia! *stoned**stunned**aphasic*

i have been bugging my mates that i want to visit Mamaev the very last time before leaving. As Wawan's sister is visiting, so i took this very opportunity to hike the tallest hill in Volgograd city and did lotsa shooting.

We all have waited long, for this day to come, when the tension and excitement clashed, salad feelings. When this is the last day of your education life, what would you think of yourself later?Speaking to you today marks a milestone in my life, i'm now 24 years old, and this shall be the 1st one.

It wasn't initially my choice for making this far until my dad signed me in with Russian Resources while i was attending my HSC( Aussie Higher School Certificate) in one of the leading college. After saying good-bye to my friends who i just bonded with, i shifted my stuffs from the college hostel and moved to a room where i would stay during my preparatory course designed by RR. There, i met people who i live with till today..here in Volgograd.

Admission letter from Volgograd State Medical Academy by then.Oh yeah, initially i was enrolled in Nizhny Novgorod. Then some twist of luck, i got someone to exchange admission with me.

I would say this very small city of Volgograd has grown much. From a very remote (in the sense of time, space, connection with the outer world) deserted town into a rather now-tourist-friendly one. There are too much to spell out here, i would rather put this aside and write about my hindsight.

I was raised from a very oriental family, where scores and performances in classes are the main interest and expectation from parents and relatives. The stereotype of getting good grades equivalent to enrolling in medicine stil banally embraced in most Asian family. I would say, i myself is one of the example.But i never regret in muster in this field.(No offense here dad, if you are reading..love you)

This would be the hardest and tedious lesson of all to learn. People would set happiness as their goal of life and would work their ass off just to get the fleeting predictable feel. Take my word for it, you find happiness when you get your car, condo, materials that satisfy your mortal greed tru hard work and sacrifice. Joy, by contrast, is unpredictable and it comes from pursuing interests and passions that do not obviously result in happiness. I find joy during the progress of this education, thus not an event cz education in medicine is a never ending progress...and if you see medicine would make you rich in coming, I'm very sorry for you..cz you stil need to learn this lesson..

I would never think that today is the day i get a greencard for freedom.nah! It's totally another way round. It's a stepping stone to work the rest of your lives, so don't be too happy to start. Stretching out academic life and enjoy it before time of sucking your lungs and get a mortgage, kids and car, house payments, and last but not least, a lifetime of servitude to bozos. Your beloved ones worked very hard to get you to this point. So, don't deprive them.

Don't rush. Be patient and passionate.

To the grazing land of the Kalmyk

The Kalmyk is originally the Mongolian people,who migrated from the western Europe and settled themselves in the lower Volga region. Elista is the capital state of Republic of Kalmyk, a 6 hours ride from Volgograd City.

The 4 hours ride was mainly on the vast grass lands of the Kalmyk, which is inhibited by the grazing sheep, cattle, horses, and other domestics.It was quite boring on the bus..we Malaysians slept trough out the journey (the Malaysian way)..while the Russians listened attentively to the tour guide telling about flora and fauna inhabiting the grasslands...*yawn*

I didn't sleep much nor listening to the guide..i camwhored with Iphone..and the effect came out like THIS! Melvin said i should post this..

The Russians sat at the upper front of the bus, we the medical students at the back..some were snoring throughout the journey...

The scenery was spectacular, and we stopped by the border between the Volgograd Oblast and the Kalmyk Oblast.

The statue symbolises the Kalmyk livestock and their relation with the Russian Federation.

After 4 hours ride, we reached our 1st spot. It was this old orthodox church that was built by the hands of the villagers who inhabited the village.

The Church was constructed by few generations and now it stands proudly in the middle of this small village, serving the devotees.

The icon was painted by hands, they are formulaic,easy, has religious depiction and following a prescribed methodology for how a particular person should be depicted but not to express art.

Icons are often illuminated by a candle or oil lamp. (Beeswax for candles and olive oil for lamps are preferred because they are natural and burn cleanly.) Besides the practical purpose of making icons visible in an otherwise dark church, both candles and oil lamps symbolise the Light of the World, who is Christ. Women should cover their mane inside the church.

Then, another 2 hours ride.The bus driver stopped by an RR (gee....just like the RR in north-south highway in Malaysia) and we tried out the Kalmyk chai with butter. It tasted just like teh tarik with salt.

....and here we reached Elista, a very Eco friendly, sedentary and peaceful city..once blessed by the Holiness 14th Dalai Lama, who chose the city for the construction the Golden Buddhist Temple.

The Tibetian Buddhist Temple. The Kalymyk has a great influence from the lamaism, where the Kalmyks regard His Holiness the Dalai Lama as their spiritual leader.

Then, we visited another place where people worship.There was a big bell and the worshipper will show their respectful deity for the gods by chanting and rotating the bell clock-wise.

There was a chess park just right in front of the bell...a spot for family outing.

To the east of the town lies the Olympic village of the 1998 XXXIII Chess Olympiad, known locally as "City-Chess". Geee....Kalmykian must be very good at chess...hmmm...

I'm clueless about the instigation of this project by the city president because the City Chess looks more like a white elephant to me rather than a usual residential area..But it was fun for candid shot.woots.

This visit to the land of the Kalymyk has thought me more about the multiracial aspect of Russia. Despite the pastoral commune lifestyle, the kalmyk steppe is independant from the admistration of Russia. They rule their own way, their own system, yet never loose their semi-rural charm.

Argh..i can't cheat myself for not having a blog nor reading one..see..i doubt my own determination in being hiatus till exam is over..*damn*

On the final day of my OBGYN cycle, Proffesor Zarkin called for a tea as a credit for those who scrubbed in an operation..how endearing is he!

So, our friend Teta volunteered to make kuih seri muka..and to add more variety to our tea, me and Teta picked one more tvarok cheese cake from a cafe for us instead of the real/expansive cheese cake. The Tvarok is ricotta cheese..or you may call it the cottagecheese.......the bottomline is..it's C.H.E.A.P..(we are so poor)

(you could hear the above conversation when a mother is about to deliver her newborn in OT..)OT= operative theatre.

when the surgeon made a semilunar incision on the lower part of the uterus..she ruptured the amniotic sac and the amniotic fluid gushed out.. in another second, the newborn was right before my eyes..disengaging the newborn was fast ...the little one is ready to see the world ...

The umbilical cord was cut in between 2 kocher clamps and the newborn was draped and brought to the neonatologist. Now came the longest and strenous part of the surgery. The delivary of the placenta and the thorough examination of the uterus were not pleasant..well..i wouldnt go into details here..hee..

Finally the surgery ended with the suturing of the uterus, aponeurosis, muscles and skin..layer by layer..

Even though i was just assisting in clearing the operative field..it wasn't easy.I had to put 101% attention and give prompt aid when the surgeon signaled me.

Gotta make a quick end of my entry today....gotta prep for finals....sigh =(

There are loads of things coming to my head recently and i want to rant in one shot..

Realised that i just left merely 1.5months til my finals and 53days left to wave good-bye to Russia...*takes out napkin wipes off crocodile tears*..I'm more than happy to leave this place..*jumps in joy..jumps on trampoline*

I installed a deadline application into my I to remind me the datelines of the finals and my departure back home..neusosis isn't it?? and i pretty love the colors of the icons indicating the dates they are due.And they are sorted from overdue(red) to the future ones (green/blue)..

The whole weekend i stuck my eyes onto the monitor catching up MDG which i've missed.As my creative juices were gushing..i realised 2 things...

1. The blogging contest (which i'd mentioned about it in my previous entry) is closed..

2. My fav contestant Ming, was eliminated...='( WHYYYYY??..........she's talented with her voice, with her fashion sense, her IT skills...she 's worth than leaving MDG i suppose..but afterall..this is a modeling contest..i shall end my case here..

Sigh....

64th Victory in Volgograd

My very 1st and last excursion to the Mamaev Kurgan (Мамаев Курган) on Victory Day in Volgograd.I asked Wi if he wants to join me to pay a visit to the Mamaev Kurgan as i want to capture some memorable moment during this big event. So, me and my mates met up at the middle pit of the hill.

I was really awed by the crowds visiting the World tallest sculpture as me n Nic had to squeeze our line among the people.

The 64th Victory Day. Red flags were put up to mark the blood shed during the bloodiest battle during WWII.

I've come across many advertisement from the magazine about cosmetic surgery. So, i've finance my procedure for as low as one could possibly believe and consulted the surgeon what i need..he recommended me rhinoplasty, eyebrow lift, cheek enhancement..too much too much!!! so, i've decided to let him do what ever he please..

There are so many ways the Christians celebrate the Easter in different part of the world. There are differences in the way Western and the Eastern European Christians celebrate Easter.

The most obvious is they celebrate on different Sunday. There is something got to do with their calender..what Julian??Gregorian???...*tsk tsk*..the Julian was invented in the 1st century during Julian Ceaser's time...and it is an old calendar which the Eastern Church is using now..(meaning-->Russia) ,and it's 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar(which the Western Church is employing). FYI, i googled all this...=)

Easter egg decoration is red, not the colorful ones they paint in the Western...Gee...I'm like making a big comparision here between East and West..wtf..
The red dye is chosen because it symbolizes the blood of Christ. Furthermore, people crack the eggs open using nails, in order to remind themselves again of the death of Christ.

The Western hold Easter sunrise service, weareas The Eastern one last all through the Saturday night.

Russian people traditionally bake Easter cakes, known as "kulich," and make curd paskha.

I bought myself 2 kulich..with Milo Ais would be the best combo..

Spring in Volgograd is playing a fool on me..the sunny-ness doesn't correspond to the daily weather. Never ever trust the sun..cz there were many times i happily wore myself in just a piece of windbreaker and had to bear the chilling wind incising my skin..

I never complain being a medical student, and reading voluminous texts and lecture notes is still doable..but waking up early to travel miles of distance to class is something i disinclined to.

Class starts at 9am, let see, i need to avoid the closing of railway gate at 8am, i must be up at 6.40am then.=( If i were stuck at the railway gate, that would take me 10 min and traffic would be heavy then...sounds like a big city(kononnya...)

If i were late, i need to run a 500m marathon from the pit stop of the marshut i take, to the gate of the hospital..you would be curious why this particular hospital is located in such a suburb area cz this aint any usual hospital, it's a place where suspicious pestiferious infectious disease that one could ever catch is confined from free zone, from the deadly hemorrhagic fever to diarrheoa and vomitting..

Growing is about learning.We are living in an exponential century,so rapid that one wound't know much new information is coming out.People a

re trying to solve new problems that don't even exist yet..

Some of the skills we have learnt during childhood weren't taken seriously bcz they might not related nor beneficial to your work..But many pick up valuable skills from random hobbies which are contributional to their working environment..

Parents used to push me to tuitions on arts, piano, swimming, calligraphy, etc..sadly none of them has brought me any advantages now....and i wish they wil be handy at times

watch some nice one during weekends...

learned sketch for 2 years..and didn't know the greatness and reputation of Michelangelo and Leornado Da Vinci til i visited Rome and Paris..

..used to dream to be a professional player...til i was smacked staight on my supraorbital by pap's stroke...*ouch*

Practise Yoga when i feel like doing it..

...and was in the Wushu for a year...*LOL*

Yep...the very last CNY event went off quite well..all the the chinese on Volg had made this event a success. Impressing!
Albeit my final CNY here..there were some 1st-time-try-outs which i had never pull off during the past ones.

1. on diet 7days prior to the event.=(
2.work out my abs 50times in the morning, 50 times before bedtime.
2. squeeze in my qi pao which i have brought here 2 years ago
3. carry a clutch that is as heavy as a brick
4.wear flesh color stockings (fugly)
5.put on super strong hair spray that i need to shampoo my hair twice.

and there were also some kudos:
lion dance that was super chio
deco was up to par
food was yummy

Spring has come....my very last spring here...it should be cheerful,lively, energetic, but it seems to me i'm slacking...i think it's a rebound effect from my intense feeling of anxiety to the incoming events..exams, exams.This is not an usual exam, it's my very last one here as a medical student and my competency in practicing medicine is yet to be judged by my future clinical performance..

I was talking with a friend about Anxiety...and it is categorized into the primary ones and the medical causing and substance induced anxiety.

FYI,
To diagnose anxiety: one has to fulfill 4 from the criteria below
Palpitation
Abdominal distress
Nausea, Numbness
Intense feeling of fear
Choking,chills, chest pain
Shaking, sob, sweating. (PANICCCSSS)

For the past few weeks i have been experiencing sleeping disturbance.I wake up at wee hours and try to sleep back..
my shoulder and neck pain is back again..now it's more tensed than last winter..*sigh*
and i get irritated easily when someone just doesn't follow my course of system..which i dont agree with..(*toot* OFF).

I miss home...i have been counting the days ..
And it's torturing...*bbwwwaaahhhh*

..hang in there...just another 84 days..=)

Malaysian Dream Girl 2009

MalaysianI'm not a fan of Malaysian reality show, but this Season 2 Malaysiandreamgirl had caught my attention when nuffnang posted about it.. i can say so far this is the only malaysian reality show that i follow...not being hypocritical..but i really can't help critisicing pthis and pthat when making comparison with the American or European ones...*blek*

I started with the audition episodes which some confused girls had made some wacky impression..when the judges asked why they want to become MDG,some of them just failed to impress.".. just trying my luck?"..."i want to be famous?"...they seem so cincai (do something randomly or without thoughts) only in impressing the judges...one said she wanted to become a supermodel..and was tempak gaogao(forcefully, showing no mercy) ...*gasp*..she just had to try to be a model first before having her wildest dream...
But at least malaysian girls are not as bewildered as the angmos, they don't jump or cry when they were being rejected at the audition..that shows how modest we are...=) (if you don'd get me,go and watch the audition of american idol and i bet you can tell the difference)

Now there are only 7 girls left.
The following sequence are based on my own preferense on the girls..(based on how modelly they are but not on their personalities....ps:this is not the personality contest anyway...) and i wil be putting words and my comments on them..........anyhow this is my blog and i write and talk what ever i LIKE...so fans..if you find my words offensive and unpleasant..please leave bcoz i won't be responsible for your emotional distress and agony..

She stands out from the rest of the girls..has high potiential and a smile that irresistably sweeeet..she could even pull off the sexy side of her (sex sells fwat)..
I like her wearing casual and she could even draw my attention (i like guys..i'm straight FYI..) even without her makeups on..

Now here is a professional avant-garde high fashion model..stunningly awesome!

She takes great photos and her toned up body wows me..(I like girls with some muscles..hehe)

I think she is the most versatile girl among the contestants..

Ming
MIng...her feature very cina and authentic.vintage..dynastically sophisticated..like an empress from the Ming dynasty.. (sorry sorry...no relation ok)..I like her picture taken below at mugshot...clean, pure, fresh! love her slitty eyes (not being critical here) that really portray our Asian authenticity (which i'm proud of !!!!!)..and she proves us that petite body can also nail down in the fashion industry.

Despite her drama with the girls..i stil like her bcz this is a model search show..not a popularity win-people's-heart show..
She has the best body proportion and her collar bones are her identity pose!!

Has a photogenic face too...not as versatile as Ming and Dawn i would say...maybe it's bcos of her cutiness that doesn't bring much diversity. She does well on the runway and that's why i put her as my 4th favourite.But she's not profound to me and easily forgettable..

....and her slender modelly body is a real package for the industry.

This is too commercial for me...is she selling the kitchen decor? her outfit? I dont get the message from her honestly..

I couldn't recognize her while looking at this photo...But impressing!!

SIGH..now i have hard times in putting the 5th,6th and the 7th....cz for me...i don't think they would win in this competition...

I used to like her at the beginning of the episodes..but later on..her performance didn't go that well...she looks good in video but not in photoshoots..and her eyes are too exophtalmic that scare me..

They forgot to photoshop her dry wrinkled/cracked lips...*gasp*.Sorry for pointing this out...but this is a NO-NO for me.

As for me,this is something that i can relate myself to Malaysia..and last but not least..i do hope one of my top 3 will win in this MDG!

I was idle for sometime here..as i was simply slacking and thought about closing my blog. TCS said i should keep it cause i never know i would blog again..well..i guess i will keep it =) Recently I'm into the ambient and trip hop genre..which i find the arrangement of the music is clean cut and surreally aesthetic..that's how i listen to music,not to crack my head with heavy bass and blast.. Sigur Ros, and Icelandic group which is known for their ethereal sound and minimal instrumental component. i was introduced by TCS for their foremost gibberish and delicate Von,meaning hope. Such enigmatic piece simply just fascinating..

Merry Xmas everyone!

It's Christmas Eve, and it's snowing outside. A white Christmas for a family reunion and friends and relatives to gather.
I'm not a christian but how much anticipation towards this festive season is as much as everyone. Pap used to bring us for caroling, which was truly my favorite moment when i was a kid. Pap loves the warmth showered and how the people rejoice us. He embraces joy, harmony, care, merrymaking... We would be following the caroling choirs visiting hotels by hotels and we at the back tracing their tail along the tourist belt from Batu Ferringhi to Tanjung Bungah; Hotel Shangri-La, Golden Sand, Holiday Inn, Park Royal...till the very last Mutiara. My favorite Xmas song would be Feliz Navidad, Here comes Santa Claus, frosty the snowman, Rudolph the red nose reindeer,etc...

Now many memories swift to my mind,the caroling, the cartoons, the films especially home alone!! And i like every of them.

This would be my very last white Xmas in Russia. I can't feel any festive air here because mostly Russians are Orthodox and they celebrate on 7th of Jan. I can't see any lights, deco on the streets...sad isn't it? Anyhow i tend to delight myself by listening to Xmas songs..

冬至，Winter Solstice Festival

冬至，Dong Zhi literally translated as the "arrival of the Winter". It's a festival when family members gather and celebrate the good year they had gone through. Usually it falls on the 21st - 23rd December. This is the beginning of the winter, the day when the people who stays at the northern hemisphere will experience the longest night fal of the yearl. Whereas the southern hemisphere will meet it within June 20-23rd. The origin of this festival comes from various cultures and places. For us chinese, it has a phylosophycal trace on the yin and yang, which Yin symbolizes feminine, negative and dark qualities of the universe, and yang masculine, positive and fiery qualities, and when something goes to one extreme it then goes to the opposite. Winter solstice in the northern hemisphere is the shortest day and longest night. After it, days become longer, which ancient Chinese thought meant yang qualities would become stronger, so should be celebrated.

The festival can be traced back during the Han dynasty, it was a day to make offerings to heaven and people’s ancestors, something both emperors and common people did.

And, when i did some readings on this warm festival, i realised that medicine plays a great rolte on this special day.

In other parts of northern China, such as Henan, people eat dumplings in honor of a famous doctor named Zhang Zhongjing (150-219). Zhang is remembered not only as a brilliant physician but as being very kind to the poor.

According to local custom, one year the winter was so cold that many people in Zhang's hometown of Nanyang suffered from painful chilblains. Seeing that his small clinic was no longer able to accommodate an ever increasing number of patients, Zhang asked his brother to put up a tent in the village square. A large cauldron was placed inside the tent to prepare medicine, in which Zhang had dumplings stuffed with mutton boiled. Every patient got a bowl of the soup with two dumplings, and their chilblains disappeared in a day or two. Zhang's mixture soon became a popular recipe, and when he died, people began to eat dumplings on the day of the winter solstice in his memory.

But in parts of South China, the whole family will get together to have a meal made of red-bean and glutinous rice to drive away ghosts and other evil things. In other places, people also eat tangyuan, a kind of stuffed small dumpling ball made of glutinous rice flour. Since most of the Malaysian chinese has southern root, we eat tang yuan with sweet brothand thus the mutton stuff dumplings are stil not our commons. Eating Tang Yuan is symbolic of family unity and family prosperity. For good luck, families prefer to have some pink tang yuan to mix with the white ones.

Since we don't have the coloring here, we just made white ones..:) with the brownish罗汉果 sweet broth, a chinese gourd 。
